Bald penguin dressed in wetsuit

A bald penguin has been fitted with a custom-made wetsuit to protect him from the elements.

Bill Hall of Marwell Wildlife Park told the BBC that the penguin, named Ralph, needed the suit to stop him getting sunburnt during the day and chilled in the evenings.

Hall said: "This time of year is molting time for penguins and the classic way to do things is to grow your new set of feathers under your old set, lose the old set - there's your brand new suit.
"Ralph doesn't bother with the growing the new, he just loses the old and goes bald for a couple of weeks. His feathers will come through, but slowly."

Regarding the manufacture of the costume, he added: "It's quite easy, really. You get someone to donate a second-hand wetsuit, you grab your penguin and you drop it down the leg of your wetsuit.

"You measure where all his things stick out, you cut holes, there you go; penguin wetsuit!"

Woman 'attacks the Mona Lisa with mug'

A Russian tourist created a security alert when she attacked the Mona Lisa with a mug.

Over 40 visitors at the Louvre Museum in Paris were sent screaming from the famous Leonardo da Vinci painting after the unidentified woman threw an empty terracotta mug over their heads at the work of art, The Daily Telegraph reports.

"There was no damage done to the painting whatsoever," a museum official told Le Parisien. "Naturally, the Mona Lisa is a carefully watched and protected painting. It is kept in a special sealed box to protect it from vibrations, heat and humidity.

"It is protected by thick glass resistant to bullets and any other object hurled at it."

The tourist was apprehended by two museum guards and turned over to police. She is being held in custody and has undergone psychological testing for Stendhal Syndrome, where sane people momentarily lose all sense of reason and attack a work of art.

Peter Andre signs deal to write cookbook

Peter Andre will reportedly get £1.5 million to write a family cookbook.

The singer, who recently split from wife Katie Price, is writing a single man's guide to feeding the family with easy-to-prepare recipes, reports the Daily Mirror.

A source told the paper: "This will really drive Katie round the bend - Pete's empire just keeps on growing. Kate prized herself on having best-selling books, it was one of the things that made her more of a housewife than a party girl.

"But now Pete is riding high and more and more success is coming his way since the split."

The release of Peter's book could lead to a chart battle with Katie's beauty tip book - Standing Out - which is due out later this year.

Fern Britton's wardrobe sold for charity

The clothes worn by Fern Britton when she fronted ITV1's This Morning have been sold off in a charity sale, it has emerged.

According to The Sun, the items were bought by the programme's crew in a special sale titled 'A Journey Through Time and Size'.

Pieces ranged in price from £2.50 to £50 and from size 10 to 22, with a total of £2,000 raised for a mother and child charity.

A show source said: "We always have a fashion and beauty sale at the end of each series - but this one was dedicated just to Fern.

"It was a mixture of dresses, skirts, kaftans and tops, alongside trousers in all sizes as well as shoes and boots, all in size seven. There were high street items as well as designer labels."

They added: "I'm sure Fern kept a few things for herself, but the majority of her wardrobe went up for grabs."
